rock improv from October 6th concert

This is from the highly-acclaimed October 6th concert in downtown Lancaster, PA by my group, כנורkēnòr, comprising myself on violin; Mike Bitts, bass; Aaron Gagne, percussion.

Before the concert, I went to hear Mike and Aaron play with another group (a rock group). I realized that this was where these guys lived, and that I should give them an opportunity to shine, doing what they do best.

Giant Steps solo

Here is part of a practice session on Giant Steps, on of the most challenging chord progressions in the standards repertoire, using iReal b (program that plays accompaniments for a gazillion jazz standards and others).

chords on drones

I took the first four chords of the Bill Evans, tune Time Remembered, played the root on a sine wave generator, and played sustained double stops as a way of exploring the harmonies. I found the sound so fascinating, that I decided to put together this little post by taking out the pauses between changing the bass note, and taking out a few clunkers. You can hear the bumps where I cut some out the pauses where I changed notes.

The electric bass and hand percussion really warm up this gorgeous tune.

Handel Violin Sonata

Interesting to hear a baroque sonata with electric bass and percussion. I think it works.
